Funeral Services Held For
Mrs. Minerva Benner, 92

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Lutheran church in syracuse, for Mrs. Minerva Benner, aged 92.

Mrs. Benner has been a resident of this vicinity since she came to Indiana from Ohio with her parents when she was only 8 years of age. When she first came to this region, Indians lived around Lake Wawasee and other nearby lakes, in this area.

Mrs. Benner died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. A.W. Christie in Ligonier, Saturday afternoon.

Rev. John Pettit, a former local pastor and now located at Lawrenceburg, conducted the funeral services. The deceased was a great-aunt of the pastor's wife. Burial was made in the Syracuse cemetery.

Mrs. Benner was born near Dayton, Ohio, on September 30, 1845, and with her parents Mrs. and Mrs. Preston Miles, came to Indiana in 1853. Her husband, James Benner, a Civil war soldier, preceded her in death more than 20 years ago.

During the summer she resided in her home on South Huntington street, in Syracuse, where she cared for her vegetable and flower gardens and assisted with the housework. She spent the winters with her daughter in Ligonier.

She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Christie of Ligonier; two sons, Charles of Syracuse and Verne of Douglas, Ariz.; five grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and three sisters, Mrs. Hattie Smith of Cromwell, Mrs. Dora Bright of Akron, and Mrs. Minnie Richter of Monon.

Mrs. Benner was the last charter member of the Syracuse Lutheran church.
