Hazel Melinda Frady Jennings August 4, 1921- June 30, 2011

It was in the summer of ‘21
Junior, Willie D, Gertrude, and Sybil went to a neighbor's house to stay,
They were playing and having lots of fun,
Cause Lymon and Ellie had a new baby on the way.

Ellie named her Hazel Melinda,
But Grandma Henson sent the papers in.
She liked Hazel Genell better,
So legally that was what her name was then.

She went by Hazel Melinda,
She didn't even know of the other name,
Until a birth certificate to enter beauty school was required,
That's when the discovery was made.

When Hazel was a young thing,
She met the man of her dreams,
He was a few years older than her,
But age matters less than it seems.

This carpenter made her very happy,
She loved him with all of her heart,
But this marriage couldn't last a lifetime
As she dreamed it would from the start.

Bo got sick and was gone before she knew it,
She's tended his grave all these years.
He was indeed her hearts first love,
Now her heart was only filled with tears.

But young Hazel knew life must go on.
Cosmetology school was at the top of her list.
So she lived with a family in Texas,
But this move had a little different twist.

Down there she met a young barber,
They called him "Johnny", Although Howard was his name.

They made quite a couple, a beautician and a barber,
A lot of their interests were the same.

They lived on the coast for several years,
They both enjoyed fishing in the deep blue sea,
But Arkansas was where they both were from,
So back to home they both had the urge to flee.

They bought a farm in Mena,
Where they both worked side by side.
They grew gardens and they raised cattle,
And took all that life gave to them in stride.

They both bought their very own business.
She called hers "Hazel's Tip to Toe."
His barbershop was right next door
Side by side their businesses would grow.

Hazel and Johnny were not blessed with children,
But had a hand in raising many not their own.
Nephew's and nieces would come for the summer,
And they were close to her heart even after they were grown.

Hazel didn't mind correcting you,
But she did it because of her love.
She wanted us to know right from wrong
And be respected by man and by our God above.

Hazel lost Johnny a few years ago,
She never married again,
Not every woman is lucky enough,
To have been married to two good men.

Hazel is now almost 90,
She's out lived her siblings, Johnny and Bo.
She had a good life and we've all learned from her,
And we are all going to miss her so.
