Born in Nestle Quarry, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Thomas H. and Minnie Howell Plotner.
He was a retired employee of the General Services Administration of the Martinsburg post office. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Air Force. He was of the Protestant faith.
He is survived by his wife, Eva L. Plotner; six daughters, Edna Albright and Carolyn Beavers both of Hedgesville, West Virginia, Mary Shane of Thurmont and Dorothy Hawkins, Doris Plotner, and Betty Plotner, all of Martinsburg; one son, Elmer H. Plotner, Jr. of Gerrardstown, West Virginia; one sister, Edna Christman of Martinsburg; two brothers, Howard Plotner of Texas and William Plotner of Winchester, Virginia; and 12 grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his stepfather, Raymond Henry; four brothers, Roy Plotner, Alvey Plotner, Allen Plotner, and Henry Plotner; and two granddaughters.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 2, at the Rosedale Funeral Chapel, Martinsburg. The Rev. Harold Snyder will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.
Graveside military services will be conducted by the VFW Post #896.
The family will receive friends at the Chapel on Tuesday, October 1, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
