Youell "Pap" Mullins, 77, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Oct. 3, 2008, at the Johnson City Medical Center in Johnson City, Tenn.
He was a father and grandfather to many and to know him was to love him. He was a member and deacon at the Duncan Gap Freewill Baptist Church, a retired coal miner, a member of the UMWA and worked at Cars R Us in Pound, Va.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Brownlo and Hulda Fleming Mullins; a granddaughter, Meggin Marshall; three brothers, Everette Mullins, Beldon Mullins and Phillip Mullins; and three sisters, Dolly Hibbitts, Maxie Davis and Nola Crabtree.
Surviving are his loving wife of 55 years, Helen Mullins; three daughters, Susie Mullins and husband Chigger, Cheryl Kilgore and husband Rod and Diane Salyer, all of Wise, Va.; five grandchildren, Beth, Jarred, Mendi, Brandon and Wrynn; six great-grandchildren, Haley, Trevor, Chloe, Seth, Kaeli and Adele "Blue Eye"; a special sister-in-law, Vonda Slemp; a special brother-in-law, Truman Gilliam; a special neighbor, Sue Kilgore; several nieces and nephews; his loving Duncan Gap Freewill Baptist Church family; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Youell "Pap" Mullins will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 6, 2008, at the Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel in Wise, Va., with the Rev. David Kilgore, the Rev. Glenn Kilgore and the Rev. Billy Hibbitts officiating. Burial will follow in the Wise Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008, at the Sturgill Funeral Home in Wise, Va., with evening services being held at 7.
