Oscar Goodwin Swanson was born in McIntosh, MN to parents Nels and Berget Moi Swanson. He grew up in Hill River Township, rural McIntosh and attended school there, graduating from McIntosh High School. He attended Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, later teaching at a rural school northeast of McIntosh.

Oscar was united in mrriage to Anna Tangen on October 3, 1939 in Fosston by Rev. T.H. Megorden. They resided and farmed in Hill River Township, Polk Co., for many years and in 1959 moved to McIntosh, MN.

Oscar entered the McIntosh Manor Nursing Home on August 30, 1994. He was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church in McIntosh, MN.

Survivors include two daughters: Betty (Ernest) Johnson of Mentor, MN, and Sandra (John) McClelland of Minneapolis, MN; one son, Jerome; 6 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, cousin and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Anna, who passed away May 6, 1995; four brothers; Carl, Thomas, Alvin, and Gunder; and two sisters; Gunda and Marion.
