Samuel Pletcher Jr. was born 1778 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. His parents were Samuel Pletcher and Elizabeth Yoder. Samuel married Anna Schenck in 1805 at Howard, Centre County, Pennslyvania. Anna was the widow of Samuel's uncle, Henry Pletcher, who died November 14, 1803, after being kicked in the stomach by a horse. Samuel died in 1811 in Howard, Centre County, Pennsylvania, leaving Anna a widow for the second time.

Henry, Anna and Samuel Pletcher Jr. were all buried on their farm which, in 1904, was a part of the Butler farm near Howard, in Centre County. In the fall of 1904, the graves were moved to the Schenck Cemetery. In 1967 the Shenck Cemetery was relocated during the construction of Sayers Dam. The graves originally had home-made markers of native mountain stone. In 1911 descendants of Henry Pletcher raised money to place a monument on his grave. Since that time, a monument for Henry, Samuel, Anna, Daniel and Jonathan Pletcher has been erected in the cemetery.
