NAME ON CEMETERY STONE: W. H. MURPHY

DIED SUDDENLY
---William H. Murphy one of the old and highly respected citizens of this vicinity died very suddenly last Friday, April 9, 1909, at 6 p.m. Up to a short-time just before his death he was in his usual health, when he had a sudden sick spell. His son Ben was with him in his wagon when he suffered another attack and passed away.
---Deceased was 71 years of age and was an upright, honest man. A wife and several children besides many other relatives and friends are left to mourn his death.
---The funeral was preached by Elder I. N. Jeff today at 2 p.m. at the Christian church in La Plata. The Home Press joins the community in extending sympathy to the relatives.

William served with Co. I of the 7th Reg., Missouri Volunteers during the Civil War.

William Murphy, he too, like Thomas and Ben,
From the first was one of our most loyal men,
Was left sick at Cessville, but recovered at last,
And had lived near LaPlata for several years past.

William H. Murphy also served in the 27th MO. Mounted Inf. Co. E Pvt. joined Johnson Co. August 4, 1861. He was also captured on a Scout September 4, 1861. The 27th MO. Mtd was disbanded December 1861 and most of the men then joined the 7th MO. SM Cavalry or the MO. Reg. Home Guard or the 8th MO.
