Imogene "Jean" Phillips, 78, of Sand Springs died on Tuesday, June 16, 2009 in Oklahoma City, Okla. She was born on June 2, 1931 in Hulbert to Elmer and Hattie (Hammons) Massingale.

Services were at 1 p.m. Friday, June 19, 2009 at the Shipman Chapel in Wagoner with the Rev. Frank Phillips officiating. Burial was at the Cochran Cemetery in Hulbert under the direction of Shipman Funeral Home & Crematory, Wagoner.

Imogene "Jean" Phillips attended school in Hulbert, and went on to marry Melbern Phillips in 1946.

Later she went to work for Commander Cotton Mills and she also worked as a Nurse's Aide for Hissom Memorial.

She was very proud of her Cherokee Indian Heritage. Jean called Tahlequah her home from 1979 until 2001 when she moved to the Tulsa and Sand Springs areas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Hattie Massingale; her son, Jerry Phillips in 2001; and two brothers, Buell and Conrad "Tony" Massingale.

She is survived by her son M.G. Phillips of Sand Springs, one daughter Linda McRoberts and her husband Bob of Oklahoma City, Okla.; former husband and friend Melbern Phillips of Sand Springs; her aunt Lillie Mae Phillips of Tahlequah; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren; along with a host of other relatives and friends.
