OBITUARY: ROLLAND OMAR HEWITT
The Barber County Index
Medicine Lodge, Kansas
September 5, 1935
Rolland Omar Hewitt, son of Wilbur and Florence Hewitt, was born near Nashville, Kansas, April 30, 1903, and passed from this life at Medicine Lodge, Kansas, September 1, 1935, at the age of 32 years, 4 months and 2 days.
He came to Medicine Lodge with his mother in 1921. Other than a year in Pratt, Kansas, this has been his home.
He entered business for himself when but 21 years of age. He advanced in the business world, by hard work and industry, beyond the average young man. At the time of his death he was a partner in the Strickland and Hewitt Ford Sales and Service in Medicine Lodge. He was honored by his fellow business men and highly respected by his competitors. Apparently, he had a brilliant career before him. The community has lost one of its noble young business men in his premature going.
He was of a quiet disposition, yet he was so admired for his business integrity and amiable disposition that he made friends of all who came to know him.
He was a man of sterling character and worth, a good friend and neighbor, a faithful son, a devoted husband, and a loving father. He will be greatly missed in the business world, in the community, by his friends but most in his home.
His sickness was of short duration. As the end drew near, he was fully aware of the fact. It was wonderful the words of admonition he gave to those about his bedside. He assured his loved ones and friends, to their comfort, that he was ready to depart in peace.
His father preceded him in death February 6, 1916. Two brothers died in early childhood.
He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, Gladys, and his daughter, Joyce, his mother, Mrs. Florence Johnson, his stepfather, Mr. E. M. Johnson, his sister, Mrs. Roy Brown of Nashville, Kansas, many other relatives and friends.
