One of nine children of David Allen and Mary Weldon. In 1767 in Hillsale, he married Sarah Sisson, 1751-1771. About 1773 he married Hannah Rowley also in Hillsdale.

Revolutionary patriot - Lt Benjamin Allen served in the 9th regiment of the Albany Militia under Col Peter Van Ness and Major Jacob Ford.
