Corben Leland Whitehurst died Monday (29 Jan 1962) at Baptist Hospital in Memphis where he had been confined since January 15th with a head injury received when his gravel truck ran off Hwy 25 North below Sanders Service Station. The truck turned over an embankment, landing on its wheels. Mr. Whitehurst was thrown about 3 or 4 feet from the truck. He was rushed to Tishomingo County Hospital where he was examined and then immediately transferred to Baptist Hospital in Memphis. Mr. Whitehurst, age 45, was an employee of Milligan Ready Mix Concrete.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Frances Whitehurst; two daughters, Mrs. Meskal Murphy and Mrs. Betty Sue Barnes, both of Iuka; a son, Larry, also of Iuka; his mother, Mrs. Cora Whitehurst; four grandchildren; a brother, Earl Whitehurst of Iuka; a sister, Mrs. Elza Cole of Canton, IL.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at New Prospect Baptist Church for Mr. Whitehurst. Bro. Ernest Quillen of Dennis and J. D. Joslin of Iuka were officiating ministers. Burial was in the Church Cemetery under the direction of Cutshall Funeral Home.
