Ernest D. Zakrzewski, 71, formerly of Stevens Point, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King.

Mr. Zakrzewski was born Feb. 10, 1929, in Stevens Point, a son of the late Peter and Helen (Stanczyk) Zakrzewski.

He entered the U.S. Army on March 7, 1947, at Camp McCoy, Wis. He served as a Corporal with the 940th Military Police. He was honorably discharged on March 5, 1950, at Fort Monmouth, N.J.

He worked for the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point for many years in security services.

Survivors include one daughter, Julia (Richard) Heinritz, Mosinee; one son, Erick, Katy, Texas; one sister, Gertrude (Max) Slagowski, Stevens Point; two brothers, Emeryk (Irene) and Adam (Marjorie), both of Stevens Point; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King, with the Rev. David Burke officiating.

Burial will be in the Veterans Cemetery in King.
