RICHFIELD SPRINGS (N. Y.) MERCURY THURSDAY JULY I5, 1963 - Services Wednesday for Arthur Hopkins – Arthur J Hopkins, 89, of Richfield Springs, RD 1, former South Columbia postmaster and operator of a general store in that village for 1906 to 1952, died Sunday, July 14th , in Herkimer Memorial Hospital. Mr. Hopkinson, whose store housed the post office, was believed to have had the longest tenure as postmaster in this area. He was assistant postmaster form 1906 to 1913, when he was appointed postmaster under the Wilson administration. He retired in 1952. A native of the Town of Warren, he moved to South Columbia in his youth and attended Richfield Springs High School. Mr. Hopkinson was married twice. His first wife, Adella Jennings Hopkinson died in 19xx. In 1917, he married Elizabeth H. Getman in Jordanville Methodist parsonage. He attended First Methodist Church of Richfield Springs. Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Harold and Leon Hopkinson; a daughter, Mrs. Everett Seidel, Danbury, Conn.; a brother, George W Hopkinson Jr, Richfield Springs, two grandchildren, Mrs. Mulligan and Mrs. Monte S… and six great grandchildren, all of Richfield Springs. The funeral was held Wednesday for the McGrath Funeral Home with the Rev. John W. … pastor of the Miller's Mills Baptist Church, officiating. Burial was in Lakeview Cemetery.
