William Gath, 86, died in Ft. Pierce, FL. Mr. Gath was born in Providence, RI and moved to Ft. Pierce in 1962.

He retired from the U.S. Postal Service and served on the USS Kidd DD661 in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of St. Anastasia Catholic Church, VFW Post #10554 of Ft. Pierce, Knights of Columbus #3416 of Ft. Pierce and St. Lucie Assembly 4th Degree of Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post 40, and the D.A.V. #14.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Mary H. Gath of Ft. Pierce, FL; daughters, Karen Metzger of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Karolyn (John) Miller of Ft. Pierce, FL, Kathryn (Scott) Walters of Port St. Lucie, FL, Kim Littrell of Port St. Lucie, FL, Kris Gath (Leslie Tharp) of Gainesville, FL and Shannon Gath of Ft. Pierce, FL; brothers, Bernard S. Gath of Hemet, CA and Lawrence Gath of Newport, RI; sister, Florence Paquette of Esmond, RI; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, William G. Gath, granddaughter, Amy Breeding and five brothers and sisters.

Memorial contributions may be made to Treasure Coast Hospice, 1201 SE Indian Street, Stuart, FL 34997.

Services: Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2009 from 5-8 PM with a Wake Service at 6:00 PM at Haisley Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 19, 2009 at 2:00 PM at St. Anastasia Catholic Church. Burial will follow at White City Cemetery.
