Jerry Aldinger, 79, formerly of What Cheer, passed away March 1st, 2008 at Los Alamitos Medical Center in California from complications related to vascular issues. A Memorial Services will be held at the What Cheer United Methodist Church with Reverend Vince Homan officiating, on Saturday, October 4, 2008 beginning at 10:00 AM. Burial will be at the Highland Cemetery in What Cheer with military honors conducted by James Murphy American Legion Post #319. Harden Funeral Chapel in charge of the arrangements.
Born August 14th, 1929 in What Cheer, Iowa where he attended the local schools before serving in the United States Air Force from January 1951 until January 1955. After his service he returned to graduate in May 1956 from Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa with a Bachelors of Arts degree in both Biology and Chemistry. After graduation he headed to California where his uncle, Dr. John C. Aldinger had settled in South Gate. Jerry stayed in Southern California, married and settled in Seal Beach, CA in 1960. His career involved quality control management positions within the circuit board industry before retiring as Vice President of Marketing from Century Laminators, Inc.

Jerry was a 48 year resident of Seal Beach, CA, where, as a single father raised his two sons, yet still was quite active in ballroom dancing and had a social life that many would envy. After retirement, Jerry enjoyed traveling and spending time in Iowa with his childhood and longtime friends. It seemed some years he was in Iowa more than California. To many folks in Iowa, Jerry was known as "Pete", although the origin of this nickname is unknown to his family, it is certain that there is a story behind it.

All during his life, Jerry loved the outdoors and all types of hunting and fishing. Jerry was able to enjoy many hunting and fishing adventures in numerous locations including Alaska and Mexico. It seems his favorites involved deep sea fishing off the California, Alaska and Mexico coasts. Jerry's last offshore adventure was in August 2002 and ended with him being airlifted off the boat by the US Coast Guard, yet he still was the leader in fish count that day with a sizeable yellowtail. In recent years he enjoyed freshwater fishing with friends in the What Cheer area.

Jerry is survived by his sons; Christian and Jeffrey; daughters-in-law; Danielle and Connie, grandchildren; Lauren, Tauni and John; and his half-brother Richard Aldinger of Pleasant Hill, CA.

Jerry will be missed, not only by his family, but by those who were lucky enough to have known him.
