Katie was born in Melstone, the third youngest of 11 children to Helena and Jacob Barthule. She was raised in and around the Canton Valley and attended school in Townsend after her parents died when she was 12. In 1945 she married William Edward Duede and they had two children. Kate worked in various jobs in Townsend including Lundy's Food Market, Montana Chicken Farms, Broadwater County Rest Home and Townsend Schools.
Kate enjoyed sports of all kinds, gardening, grooming and boarding dogs, dancing and playing cards at the Townsend Senior Center.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers and sisters, Marie, Lydia, Betty, David, Alex, Fritz, Jacob, John, and a brother who died in infancy; and her husband, Bill.
She is survived by her daughter, Judy (Curtis) Cleveland of Ennis; and son, Bill (Mary) Duede of Townsend; as well as grandchildren, Sean of Townsend, Jacob Duede of Colorado Springs, Colo., Kevin (Janet) Cleveland of Lewistown, Idaho, Barbara Todd, and Kenton Irvine; and great-grandchildren, Serena, Brittany and Tyler Todd, all of Ennis. Brothers, Robert and George Barthule also survive in Melstone and Texas. K & L Mortuary handled arrangements, and the family wishes to thank the staff at Generations Assisted Living in Ennis for the loving, compassionate family care they gave Katie this last year.
