Kye Baker, 84, long time Wenatchee Valley resident, and retired law-enforcement officer, passed away Sunday in a Wenatchee hospital.
He was born June 14, 1891, in Johnson County, Indiana, and came to Wenatchee in 1909, working for the Horan ranch. He was united in marriage to Laura Ihde, in 1915 in Minnesota and played professional baseball in Minnesota.
Kye served in the U. S. Army during World War I and had worked for the Chelan County Sheriff's office for 20 years before becoming Town Marshall for Cashmere. He had lived in Cashmere since 1940.
He was a member of the Cashmere Grace Lutheran Church, Mission Lodge #159 F and A.M. of Cashmere, Rocky Reach Barracks 1251 and the Cashmere American Legion Post #64.
He is survived by his wife, Laura, and a daughter; a grandson; a brother, Custer Baker of Johnson County, Indiana; two sisters, Claudia Yount and Erma [sic] Terrell, both of Martinsville, Indiana.
Funeral services for Kye Baker were held Wednesday afternoon in the Braun Funeral Chapel with Rev. Emil Stolte officiating. Musical selections were "Peace in the Valley" and "The Lord's Prayer", with organ accompaniment.
Burial took place in the Cashmere Cemetery with Masonic rites by Mission Lodge #158 F and A. M.
The Braun Funeral Home was in charge of funeral arrangements. Memorials were suggested to the Chelan County Historical Society.
