OAKVILLE — Mrs. Alice E. (Wolfe) Butler, age 84, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, June 13, 2009, at Waterbury Hospital. She was the wife of James F. Butler.

Mrs. Butler was born Nov. 6, 1924, in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., the daughter of the late Earl and Alice (Kipp) Wolfe. During her life, she worked as a cottage charge at Southbury Training School for more than 16 years until her retirement in 1979. She enjoyed creative arts and crafts, sewing, knitting and gardening. She especially enjoyed having her family with her.

In addition to her husband, James, Alice is survived by her daughter, Francine Demirs and her husband, Robert, of Oakville; her daughter, Beverly Butler and her husband, Stephen Dominko, of Washington, N.H.; her daughter, Coleen French and her husband, Robert, of Thomaston; her son, Christopher Butler and his wife, Jan, of Ottawa, Ill.; and her son, Timothy Butler and his wife, Debbie, of Oakville. She also leaves her brother, Gerald Wolfe and his wife, Jane, of Wapwallopen, Pa.; her sister, Dolores Dempkowski and her husband, Stanley, of Mountain Top, Pa.; 11 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her granddaughter, Lisa M. Demirs Carroll.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 19, 2009, at 9:30 a.m. at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Watertown. There are no calling hours. Maiorano Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the Butler family requests that memorial contributions in Alice's name be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
