George, his siblings, and parents, Loammi and Amelia (Muir) Baldwin, are listed on page 655 in "The Baldwin genealogy from 1500 to 1881" by Charles C. Baldwin. Thank you to contributor Aaron Furtado Baldwin #50965906 for submitting George's middle name which can be found in that family history.

Mr. Baldwin died at Medfield, Massachusetts. That town's record of his death has January 28, 1898 as the day he passed away which is a day earlier than the date on his gravestone and Phillipston's records. He was unmarried.

Census information:

1850 at Phillipston, MA: Nabby Baldwin, 60; nephews, Austin L. Baldwin, 13, and George T. Baldwin, 10; and a boarder, Mary Jones, 68. Nabby was the widow of Tilly Baldwin.

1855 at Phillipston, MA: Nabby Baldwin, 65; boarders, A. E. P. Perkins, 35, C. Minister, Christopher B. Marsh, 22, student, and Ellen Buckley, 28; nephew, George T. Baldwin, 15, scholar; and niece, Mary L. Baldwin, 26.

1860 at Pittsfield, MA: Benjamin Chickering, 36, secretary at an insurance company; wife, Debora L., 43; sister, Betsey Chickering, 42; Debora's 1st cousin, George Baldwin, 20, (no occupation entered); and domestic helper, Honora Rodgers, 30.

1865 at Springfield, MA: Geo. T. Baldwin, 25; Geo. F. Hyde, 23; Homer L. Hart, 21; and Chas. D. Lineder, 17. All four men were employed as clerks. They lived in the same building but were enumerated in the census separately from Zoliver Smith, 51, and his wife, Jane G. Smith, 30. Mr. Smith's occupation was entered as "intelligence office". [The name on his gravestone at Chicopee, Mass. was spelled Zolvah Smith.] A quick search of the internet for Zolvah Smith of Springfield came up with an 1868-1869 business directory which listed Smith under "Intelligence and Passenger Offices". Maybe he worked for a train or bus company. Did George and his three roommates also work in those offices?

1870 at New York City (Ward 17), NY: George T. Baldwin, 30, clerk in a store, was one of twenty-two boarders living at a boarding house. The home was run by and the residence of Alfred F. and Susan Smith and their three young children. Of course there is the chance that this is not the correct George T. Baldwin. He was born in Georgia though.

1880 - Sadly, George may be the George Baldwin (age 40, a clerk, unmarried and born in Georgia) who was a patient at the Worcester Lunatic Hospital at Worcester, MA. The George at that facility was listed as having 'F' as his middle initial however. George's death record also had an 'F' instead of a 'T'. The cursive versions are obviously pretty similar. Mr. Baldwin died at Medfield, MA which built a new facility called the Medfield Insane Asylum in 1896. It is not known if he was a patient there.
