Tom was raised in Rainbow. He graduated from John Fitch High School, Class of 1947.
During the Korean War he served as a combat medic with the 279th Regiment of the 45th Infantry. Upon returning, he had surgery for an injury he sustained in the war at the VA Hospital in Newington.
One of the nurses assigned to his case was his future wife Laura. It was love at first sight. After a very brief courtship, they married and were fortunate to have 55 happy years together. They were the proud parents of Michael (Lauren) of Arizona, Patrick (Lynn) of Bristol and Thomas (Stacy) of Farmington. Other members of the family are grandchildren, Amy, Patrick, Sean, Megan and Sara Brookman; and great-grandchildren, Brianna Wilson and Shane Brookman. Other survivors include Delores Brookman, wife of the late Robert Brookman; brother of Tom and their children; sons Kevin, John (Julie); and daughter Sheryl (Richard) Haraghey; and his paternal aunt Rita McCarthy; and many cousins; and friends.
Tom was employed by Stanley Works in the Tariff Dept. and later he was a Senior Transportation Examiner for the State of CT in the D.U.P.C. He enjoyed 22 years of retirement.
Tom loved his many friends and looked forward to his high school reunion and his army reunion in O.K. and WI. He held life memberships in the DAV, VFW, and the Korean War Veterans Association and belonged to the 279th Infantry Association.
