James A. "Jim" Nelson, 82, of 987 High Street, Bradford, passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2009 at the Bradford Ecumenical Home. He was born on February 8, 1927 in Kane, a son of the late Alfred and Sarah Kidd Nelson. He was a 1944 graduate of Jamestown High School. On August 23, 1947 he married Dorothy L. Knight in the Clarendon Methodist Church, Clarendon, PA. She preceded him in death on January 31, 2008. He was employed by Pennzoil, Bradford and later by the former Boise Cascade Can Company, Bradford, until his retirement in 1992. He was a member of the Custer City United Methodist Church. He is survived by two daughters, Donna (Jonathan) Green, Lititz, PA, Pamela Nelson, Cartersville, GA, one brother, Lani Nelson, Jamestown, NY, one twin sister, June Abbott, Oklahoma City, OK, two grandsons, Lee J. Minter, Erie, Andrew (Melissa) Sparmblack, Ephrata, PA, three granddaughters, Kristin (Scott) Cowan, Garner, NC, Allison (Jeremy) McCraken, Ephrata, PA, Erin Sparmblack, Ephrata, PA, five great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and wife he was also preceded in death by one daughter, Dianne Minter who passed away on October 20, 2007, two brothers, Donald Nelson who passed away on December 29, 2007 and Neil Nelson, and one sister, Shirley Abbott. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 30, 2009 from 12:00 to 1:00 PM at the Mascho Funeral Home, Inc. at which time funeral services will be held with the Rev. Fred Moore officiating. Burial will be in the McKean Memorial Park. Memorials in his memory can be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
