William Henry West, 76, of 475 Thirty-fourth [Street], paperhanger, and painter, died today at nine-fifteen a.m. of causes incident to age. He resided with his daughter, Mrs. Joseph L. Vernieuwe.

A resident of Ogden for the past 50 years, Mr. West was born in London, England, March 7, 1864, a son of George David and Lydia Maria West.

He was a member of the Utah Adult Blind association, Chapter 4, and served by helping the blind to their destinations. He was a high priest in the L.D.S. Fourteenth ward. He had the distinction of being a member of the first volunteer fire department in this city.

Early in life, he was employed as a broom manufacturer, both for himself and the Scoville Broom Co. He also was known for his ability as a bass fiddle player at the old-time dances.

He married Esther Webster, March 6, 1889, in the Logan temple. She died in Cardston, Alberta, Canada, where they moved in 1897.

Surviving are a son, George W. West; two daughters, Mrs. Edith L. Bushnell and Mrs. Joseph Verniewe, Ogden; two brothers, John C. and Edwin C. West, both of Ogden; one sister, Mrs. Lydia B. Campbell, Carlin, Nev., and ten grandchildren. The body is at Aultorest mortuary.
