George B. Colwell, a well-known resident of Boone county since 1864 and one of the most highly esteemed of our pioneer settlers, passed away at the home of his sister, Mrs. Hannah Myers near Pilot Mound last Saturday August 3rd, after a lingering illness. Funeral services were held from the home of his sister, at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. Chas. Davis of Fraser and the Rev. – B. Shannon of Pilot Mound, and the remains laid to rest in the Bluff Creek cemetery. Deceased was born in Mishawaka, Indiana, Feb. 17. 1857 and was in his 51st year at the time of his death. He came with his parents to Boone county in 1864 and has made his home here ever since, until called to his final home last Saturday. December 7, 1879 he was united in marriage to Miss Emma Runyan. To them were born five children, three of whom Mabel, Nellie and Norman E. have preceded their father to the better world. The widow, one son, Horace B. one baby daughter, Vera, eight sisters and two brothers are left to mourn his death, and to whom is extended the sincere sympathy of a wide circle of friends.
