James and Jennie Elizabeth Ross married December 22, 1874 in Iroquois County, Illinois. Together they had seven children. Daughter Gracie was born in Illinois; they moved to Reno County, Kansas, in March, 1877, where three sons and three more daughters were born. James (J.S.) suffered over three years with cancer of his lower lip before his death in December 1892.

Marker is engraved with depiction of the open gates of Heaven, just beyond is entrance of brick paving; the Right Hand of God points to the open gate while holding a leafy branch; above the Hand the words "Come Into Me"
