Entered into the service of the U.S. during the Civil War. He was in three different units: 53d NYSV D'Epineuil Zouaves; 47th NYSM [militia]; 176th NYSV 'Ironsides' Regiment. He saw action in the gulf and was captured and paroled Jun/Jul 1863. He was medically discharged in Dec 1863 due to consumption contracted during his service. He died the following March. He is buried with other members of his family in Cypress Hills.
