Ethel L. Paulson, age 79, of Las Cruces passed away Friday, July 25, 2003 at Mesilla Valley Hospice La Posada. She was born September 21, 1923 in Granton, Wisconsin to Fred and Lydia Grottke.

While still in Wisconsin, Ms. Paulson was a former schoolteacher and later, an Assistant Activity Director for a nursing home. She and her husband, the late Chapman Paulson, moved to Las Cruces in1974 and during the summer months operated their restaurant, The Chaperal Steak House back in Wisconsin. While in Las Cruces, Ms. Paulson volunteered her time to Mesilla Valley Hospice, RSVP Senior Program through Munson Senior Citizen Center and the Las Cruces Horseman's Association.

Family survivors included sons, Howard Paulson, wife, JoAnne of La Mesa, Peter Paulson of Las Cruces; brother, Louis Grottke of Marshfield, WI; sister, Ruth Fail of Berwyn ILL; grandchildren, Lori, Jenny, Christopher and Katie Paulson all of Las Cruces. Other survivors included several nieces and nephews.

Chapman Paulson, her husband, preceded her in death in 1996.

A Graveside Service were held at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery followed by Ms. Paulson's Memorial Service at Mission Lutheran Church. Officiating both services will be Rev. Ralph Patrick, Pastor of Mission Lutheran Church.

Pallbearers were her sons, Howard and Peter, grandson, Chris, friends, Patrick and Mark Gutierrez and cousin, Grant Dyer.
