Whitbeck Found Dead - White City Man Overcome by Fumes from Gas Heater
Foster A. Whitbeck, 42-year-old White City man, was found dead late yesterday afternoon in a Chester street cottage at Topeka, where he lived alone. The coroner estimates he had been dead since last Thursday. Graveside funeral services were held at the Delavan cemetery at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon for the deceased by Rev. Frank Parker of Parkerville. Whibeck had been employed at the Topeka bomber base for about a year, and was batching in the Oakland addition. Relatives here say he was recovering from the flu, and apparently had turned up a small open-flame gas stove for additional heat. The body was discovered in the suffocatingly warm room after he remained away from work several days. Mr. Whitbeck was born in Parkerville, attended high school at Herington, but lived most of his life at White City. He was a nephew of Mrs. Mike Kern of Delavan, Mrs. Geo Briix and Wm. Blythe of White City.
