Charlie Roberson Hearn was born Nov. 14, 1897, the oldest of two children, to Ira Howell (sometimes called Isac) Hearn (Hearne) and Mary R. Windham. His sister, Laura Lee Hearn married a Holt. Charlie married Hettie Gardner on Dec. 23, 1917 (he liked to say on Christmas Eve), they family had four children, Jesse, Elsie, Janie and Van Fuller, but one daughter, little Else, died young and is also buried here at New Elam. Charlie was a retired Carolina Power and Light Company employee. He passed away on March 17, 1981. He was a wonderful Granddad - was lots of fun; he used to let the grandkids ride on his tractor, he smoked a pipe, loved to keep dogs, had a great sense of humor. At the time of this writing, he has three living grandchildren (little Jerry Brown died young), eight great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren.
