William R. Sturgeon
OAKFIELD -- William R. Sturgeon , 57, of Oakfield, a Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War and an avid Buffalo Sabres fan, died Thursday (June 14, 2007) at home while under care of HomeCare and Hospice.
He was born July 11, 1949, in Spangler, Pa., a son of Alverta Turner Sturgeon of Oakfield and the late Allen Sturgeon. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and worked at Graham Manufacturing as an assembler. He was a sergeant with security at Darien Lake, a messenger for Brinks and for many years was a special deputy with the Genesee County Sheriff's Department.
Mr. Sturgeon had a private pilot's license and enjoyed flying very much.
In addition to his mother, survivors include his wife, Sandra Wolfe Sturgeon; a son, William "Bubba" Sturgeon of Basom; a daughter, Vicki (Robert) Showler of Basom; a brother, David (Lenny) Sturgeon of Syracuse; a sister, Mary Jane (Hazen) Lewis of Kissimmee, Fla.; six grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was grandfather of the late Kyle.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Burdett & Sanford Funeral Home, 11 Maple Ave. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Calvary Baptist Church, 3515 Galloway Rd., Batavia. Burial will be in Cary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family.
