She was born Evelyn Mildred Fiske, Oct. 28, 1915, on a homestead near Franklin. Her parents were Roy and Lillian Fiske.

Evelyn graduated from Ryegate High School in 1934, then promptly added to her name by marrying her cowboy, Floyd Lord. They farmed and raised a few cows south of Barber for 37 years. They had four children: June, Bob, Pat and Shirley. Floyd retired in 1972, and they moved to Ryegate.

Floyd passed away in 1975. Evelyn continued with her artwork, oil painting and crafts, and was part owner of a craft store in Ryegate for a short time. She also loved to travel and visited Hawaii and Washington, D.C. But her main love was dancing. She spent several winters in Arizona, and then moved to Billings, where she learned China painting, winning several ribbons at the fair. She never met a stranger and made friends everywhere she went.

In 1994, she added another name when she danced into a new life with Albert Kraft of Billings. They also traveled in the first years, including a trip to Israel.

A highlight of her life was in 1998, when she published a book about her life, titled, "We Lived for Next Year." Shortly after the book, she lost most of her vision to macular degeneration. In 2004, she moved in to the tender care of the staff at the Adult Home Care Services. Then early in the morning, May 6, 2008 Evelyn passed away.
