Martin Heald Calderwood, born May 3, 1835, at Lincolnville, Waldo County, Maine. Recruited 90 volunteers at Dutch Flat, CA, and commissioned a 2nd Lieut. in Co. D, 7 Calif. Infantry, on Dec. 20, 1864. Posted to Fort Mason, AZ. Discharged at S.F. May 22, 1866. Arrived Phoenix 1872. Speaker of Terr. Legislature 1877-79. Calderwood Peak in Maricopa County, Arizona, is named after him. Died May 16, 1913.
