Born in Gatesville, Texas, on May 16, 1926, he was the son of Q.P. and Hattie (Gross) Black. He lived in Kerrville most of his life. Floyd worked for Fawcetts Furniture Company for many years and, later, Stein Lumber Company, the City of Kerrville and Humphrey's Pest Control.
He was predeceased by his parents; his wife of 46 years, Florine Black; and a brother, Jack Black.
Those left to honor and cherish his memory are his son, Floyd Black Jr. and his wife, Denise, of Austin; granddaughters, Tracy Guerra and her husband, Anibal, of Thorndale, Texas, and Tiffany Cox and her husband, Glen, of Abiline, Texas; great-grandchildren, Hunter, Alexandria and Dekota Guerra and Haley, Sarah and Heather Cox; sisters, Betty Taylor of Kerrville, Thelma Smith of San Antonio and Joyce Peese of Comfort, Texas; a brother, Bill Black of San Antonio; and many nieces and nephews.
There is no visitation.
Funeral services will be at Kerrville Funeral Home on Thursday, June 11, 2009, at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories.
In lieu of floral arrangements, the family asks that monetary donations in his name be made to the Hill Country Youth Ranch, the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer's Association.
