Assenath (sometimes spelled Asenath) was born October 7, 1841 at Standon, Hertfordshire, England. Her father was William Stringer and her mother was Elizbeth Stringer (Also a Stringer before marriage). Assenath had two brothers and 5 sisters. She married Irving Henry Fisher in september of 1867. They moved to the United States soon after their marriage. They had five children.
