Richfield Springs Mercury, Thursday, December 28, 1967 - Wallace Getman - Wallace Getman, 91, of 10 Elm Street, Richfield Springs, died Wednesday, December 20,1967, in a Utica hospital after a long illness. Mr. Getman was born July 26, 1876, near Mohawk, a son of Oren and Elizabeth Ecker Getman. He attended the old West Winfield Academy, and in 1898 was married to Hattie A. Backus. After his marriage, Mr. Getman managed the Stone Store and Post Office at East Winfield. He also lived in Columbia and in West Winfield where he owned one of the first car liveries. Later, he moved to Richfield Springs where operated a sales stable of western horses and racehorses which he raced at various fairs. He was a member of Richfield Springs Exempt Firemen's Association. He is survived by two daughters, Miss Alice Getman, with whom he made his home, and Mrs. Chester (Marian) Bennett, of Moravia. Funeral services were conducted from the Wilcox Funeral Home, in West Winfield at 1 P.M. on Saturday with the Rev. Horace del Pozzo, pastor of the Richfield Springs Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial was in the East Winfield Cemetery.
