David's parents are Samuel Jones Rolfe and Elizabeth Hathaway. They were married in 1818 in the New England States.

After joining the Church, the Rolfe's moved to Kirtland Ohio in 1833 and worked on the Kirtland Temple. He was a carpenter and was a very needed person to help build the Temple.

About 1839 they moved to Nauvoo, Illinois. And once again, helped in working build the Nauvoo Temple. They lived in Nauvoo until they were expelled by the mobs, and early in 1846 they made their way to Winter Quarters, Nebraska. While in Winter Quarters, Samuel was Bishop of the Winter Quarters 13th Ward.

It was while they were in Winter Quarters, that Samuel and Elizabeth was blessed to have a new little son, David Lorenzo Rolfe born 1 November 1846. David was their last child.

But six days later, little 6 day old David Lorenzo passed away on 6 November 1846. He is buried in the Cutlers Park of the Mormon Pioneer Cemetery in Winter Quarters. He is in Grave #50. According to the Winter Quarters Sexton Report for the Cutlers Park, his death is recorded as “unknown”.

The Rolfe's joined the Abraham O. Smoot / George B. Wallace Company of 1847 to travel West to the Salt Lake Valley.

David's father was County treasurer of San Bernardino, California, house carpenter and joiner.
