Walter W. Allen, 76, a retired painter and carpenter here, died at 9:10 a.m. Sunday, October 16, 1966 in his home at 1326 North Carver Street. Although he had been in failing health the past three years, his death was unexpected.

The son of Frank and Sarah Hooker Allen, he was born in Decatur County May 15, 1890 and had lived in this locality all his life.

He was educated in the schools of Decatur County and was self-employed as a painter and carpenter until retiring.

He was first united in marriage with Velma Gail Skinner, who preceded him in death in 1928. On June 17, 1933 he was married at Greensburg to Vivian Ruble.

Surviving with the widow, Mrs. Vivian Allen of Greensburg are two daughters and six sons. They are, Mrs. Katherine Hall, Mrs. Charles (Bonnie) Holzhause, Elda Allen, Walter J. Allen Jr., John J. Allen, Nolan Allen, Charles J. Allen, and Sonny Allen; two sisters, Mrs. Joseph Sanders and Mrs. Clancy Lawson; 25 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents and first wife, by a son, two sisters, and a brother who died in infancy.

Mr. Allen was a member of the Forest Hill Presbyterian Church.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 19, 1966 in J.H. Porter & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Allee, pastor of the Bible Baptist Church here, officiating. Burial will be in Union Presbyterian Cemetery south of Forest Hill.

Visitation at the funeral home is scheduled after 6 p.m. Monday, July 17, 1966 and after 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 18, 1966.
