Death of Miss Josephine Pearson
Allusion was made a few days since to the fact that indirect information ha been received in the city of the sudden death of Miss Josephine Pearson, one of the young ladies who went out with Mr. Mercer's party to Washington Territory -- her place of residence being at Coopvile, Whidby's Island. Last evening a letter was received here by Mrs. Pearson from Mr. Daniel Pearson, father of the deceased, confirming the sad intelligence of the death of their much-beloved daughter. Apparently in good health on Wednesday, August 23th, she ate a hearty dinner and was in good spirits. That afternoon, her scholars, not finding her at school, despatched a messenger to her boarding place, and search being made, she was found in an out-house, dead. Physicians who were called pronounced her disease as enlargement of the heart. Her body was deposited in a burial-place, in that distant territory, far away from so many of her loved relatives and friends. She was about twenty years of age, and was much beloved by those with whom she had made such a brief acquaintance during her residence in that portion of the country. The anguish of the fond parents for this sad bereavement is almost insupportable.
