Mildred M. Allen, 97, of Sheridan and Cheyenne, WY, died Wednesday, September 3, 2008 in Sheridan Manor.

Mrs. Allen was born April 4, 1911 in Toledo, Iowa to Wyatt Owen and Alice May (Paige) Thompson. She spent her early years in Iowa and then moved to York, Nebraska where she attended schools, graduating from York High School in 1929. Mildred received her B. A. Degree from York College in 1934, attended Gregg College Normal Course in Chicago, Illinois graduating in 1937, and received her M. A. Degree from Colorado State College of Education in Greeley, Colorado in 1945.

Mrs. Allen married Louis E. Allen February 21, 1957 in Ault, Colorado.

She was a Secretarial Science Instructor in high schools and colleges for over 30 years, teaching in Ridgeville Corner, Ohio for 3 years, Lawrenceville, Illinois for 6 years, East Moline, Illinois for 1 year, Portland, Oregon for ½ year, Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington for 3 years, North Platte, Nebraska for 6 years, and Sheridan College in Sheridan, WY for 11 years. Mrs. Allen also was the Supervisor of Clerical Employment at the University of Wyoming for 3 years, retiring in 1970.

Mildred was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cheyenne, WY. She enjoyed cross-stitch, reading, and spending time with her family. She was affectionately known as "Bibber" to her nieces and nephew. She was a wonderful "second mother" to her step-daughters and a loving grandmother to their children.

Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her husband, Louis; her parents; two sisters; and one granddaughter.

She is survived by two step-daughters, Nancy Osterman-Rowland, of Marion, Michigan, and Shirley Korp, of Clearmont, Wyoming; 4 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 3 nieces; and 1 nephew.

Visitation for Mrs. Allen will be from 5:00 P. M. to 7:00 P. M. Friday, September 5, 2008 at Champion Ferries Funeral Home.
Graveside service for Mrs. Allen will be 1:00 P. M. Monday, September 8, 2008 in the Lakeview Cemetery in Cheyenne, WY with the Rev. Ben King officiating. Cheyenne arrangements are with Schrader Funeral Home. Local arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.
