Mr. John W. Brunton departed this life at a quarter past ten o'clock on Wednesday, March
11, 1885, aged 78 years, 5 months and one day, at the residence of his son, W. C.
Brunton. Grandpa Brunton died surrounded by all the bounties and earthly aid that loving
relatives and friends could give, after a lingering sickness from dropsy, linked with the
infirmities of old age. Mr. Brunton came from Illinois to Kansas many years ago, and was
well known in eastern Kansas, he having many relatives, friends, and acquaintances in
this State and Illinois. During the many toils and hardships of pioneer life he made a
wide circle of warm friends. Mr. Brunton leaves an aged wife and a large family of
children and grandchildren to mourn his lost, while his demise casts a shadow of gloom
over this entire community and all our people deeply sympathize with the bereaved family.
