Home is the sailor home
from the sea,
and the hunter home
from the hill.

Robert Louis Stevenson

Joseph Benjamin Solomon departed this life on Wednesday, March 28, 1990.

Born February 25, 1919 in Stony Point, VA., he was the son of the late Horace and Alida Solomon. He was a former member of Free Union Baptist Church in Stony Point, VA., and in recent years, a member and deacon at Zion Union Baptist Church in Charlottesville, VA. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy.

He leaves to mourn their loss his wife, Mildred Smith Solomon; one daughter, Earline Solomon Jackson, four sons, William Solomon, James Solomon, Joseph Solomon Jr., and Ruddell Solomon. He also leaves 11 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, two brothers-in-law, one sister-in-law, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

We wish we could convey to you our feelings at this time, but it's hard to express our special love for our husband, father, grandfather and uncle, Joseph Solomon. It's difficult to tell you of special moments shared in work and play. We have lost the last link of a generation and the first link in our family unit. Yes, we'll miss him, but he'll live on in memories as we think and talk of him. He was a hard worker and a person who couldn't say no, always willing to give a helping hand and to please others. We feel as he felt that life is forever and death is a dream.

IF WE DID NOT GO TO SLEEP AT NIGHT
WE'D NEVER AWAKEN TO SEE THE LIGHT
AND DEATH, TOO, IS A TIME OF SLEEPING,
FOR THOSE WHO DIE ARE IN GOD'S KEEPING
AND THERE'S A SUNRISE FOR EACH SOUL,
FOR LIFE NOT DEATH IS GOD'S PROMISED GOAL-SO TRUST GOD'S PROMISE AND DOUBT HIM NEVER, FOR ONLY THROUGH DEATH CAN MAN LIVE FOREVER!
