W.J. TERRENCE DIES AFTER LONG ILLNESS
Retired Fireman, 81, Was ON Force 27 Years

William J. "Cap" Terrence, 81, retired member of the fire department died Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in his home at 449 First ave., East End, after a long illness.

Mr. Terrence was born in Girard and came to East Liverpool about 55 years ago. He was a member of the fire department for 27 years, being a member of the first salaried fire department in the city. He served under Chiefs Clint Morley, James McCullough, Arthur Aungst and the late Thomas Bryan, being in charge of the East End station. He retired in 1923.

Mr. Terrence was a member of Pennova lodge 880, Odd Fellows, and also of the Second Presbyterian church.

He leaves his widow, Mrs. Maggie Boyer Terrence, three sons, William Terrence, who is confined in the United States Veterans Hospital, and Columbus, Ray Terrence of Hopewell, Va., and Jess Terrence of near Calcutta; one brother, T. O. Torrence of East Liverpool; two half-brothers, Ira C. Fair of East Liverpool and Cecil Fair of East Palestine; a half-sister, Mrs. May F. Beck of Lakewood; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the Martin funeral home with Rev. J. Davis Barnard, pastor of the Second Presbyterian church, officiating. Burial will be made in Riverview cemetery.

Friends may call Thursday afternoon and night at the funeral home.
