The 1840 US Census of Jefferson Co., AL enumerated the household of Mitchell Poole (age range 40 thru 49 Y/O) and his wife, Mary Elizabeth (Gilbert) Poole, (age range 30 thru 39 Y/O). Among the children in the household was a female (age under 5 Y/O) who was probably Elizabeth Caroline "Eliza" Poole who was born on 20 Nov 1835.

The 1850 US Census of Cahaba Valley, Jefferson Co. AL enumerated the household of 49 Y/O Mitchell Poole, a farmer born in South Carolina and his 50 Y/O wife, Mary Elizabeth (Gilbert) Poole born in GA. Also residing in the household were their children: 21 Y/O Huldah Poole; 17 Y/O Isaac M. Poole; 14 Y/O Elizabeth Caroline Poole; 12 Y/O William L. Poole and 9 Y/O John C. Poole.

Elizabeth Caroline Poole married Robert M. Jones at Cedar Grove, Jefferson Co., AL on 15 Oct 1857 (See attached marriage record).

The 1860 US Census of Townships 16, 17 and 18, St. Clair Co, AL enumerated the household of 32 Y/O Robert M. Jones, a farmer born in South Carolina, and his 23 Y/O wife, Eliza Caroline (Poole) Jones, born in Alabama. Also living in the household were their children: 1 Y/O Issac Jones and 1 month old Eli Jones. NOTE: Living in the household next door was Alexander M. Godwin, the father of Alexander Right Godwin. They were the grandfather and father, respectively, of Wilburn King Little's first wife, Sarah Ann Godwin. Wilburn King Little was the second husband of Eliza Caroline (Poole) Jones. (See explanation below)

It appears that Robert M. Jones, first husband of Eliza Caroline (Poole) Jones, enlisted as a Pvt. in Company "C" of the 18th Alabama Infantry Regiment. He was captured and died at the Union Prison Camp at Rock Island, Illinois. Although there seems to be a propensity to connect the FAG memorial dedicated to Pvt Robert N. Jones to Mary Elizabeth (Poole) Jones, I cannot find a connection. The memorial dedicated to Robert N. Jones was, at one time, attached to this memorial as her 3rd husband, but she was only married twice.

The widow, Elizabeth (Poole) Jones, married the widower, Wilburn King Little, as his 2nd wife, circa 1869/70 probably in St. Clair County, Alabama. As inscribed on her tombstone, she was "Wife of W. K. Little". The US Censuses dated 1870, 1880, 1900 and 1910 confirmed this husband/wife relationship. Wilburn's first wife, as noted above, was Sarah Ann Godwin, daughter of Alexander Right Godwin, whom he married in 1857 and who died on 08 Jul 1866 at Jefferson County, Alabama.

The genealogical literature concerning Wilburn King Little is replete with the inaccurate statement that his parents were Henry Perry Little and his second wife, Susannah (Crump) Tunnell Little (marriage date 19 Sept 1833). Wilburn's parents actually were Henry Perry Little and his first wife, Cynthia (Bass) Little, who were married on 06 Jun 1822 at Jefferson Co., AL. Cynthia (Bass) Little died between 1832, the birth year of her last child, Robert J. Little, and 19 Sept 1833, the marriage date of Henry Little and his second wife, Susannah (Crump) Tunnell.

Elizabeth Caroline (Poole) Jones Little stated in her 12 Jan 1921 Confederate (CSA) pension application that her father was Mitchell Poole and she married Wilburn King Little about 50 years previously and stated she had been married only twice. Since the 1870 US Census of Precinct 3, St. Clair Co., AL enumerated the household of 35 Y/O Wilburn King Little and his widowed 32 Y/O second wife, Elizabeth Caroline (Poole) Jones Little (1835-1922), it would appear their marriage occurred in the 1869/70 time period. Eliza (Poole) Jones was the widow of Pvt. Robert M. Jones (CSA), who died on 15 Mar 1864 in a Union Prison Camp at Rock Island, Illinois and was buried in the Rock Island Confederate Cemetery, Rock Island Co., Illinois. The children residing in the 1870 household reflect these marriages. They were: 11 Y/O Artelia Jane Little; 10 Y/O William Rufus Little; 8 Y/O Cynthia R. Little (Children of Wilburn King Little and his first wife, Sarah Ann (Godwin) Little who died on 08 Jul 1866). Also living in the household were the children of Eliza (Poole) Jones by her deceased first husband, Robert M. Jones. They were: 11 Y/O Issac M. Jones (b. 5 Oct 1858); 10 Y/O W. Ely Jones; 8 Y/O Mary Elizabeth Jones (b. 27 Apr 1861 and 6 Y/O Martha Jane Jones (b. 14 May 1863).

The 1880 US Census of Branchville, St. Clair Co., AL enumerated the household of 49 Y/O Wilburn King Little, a farmer born in AL, and his 44 Y/O second wife, Eliza Caroline (Poole) Jones Little, born in AL. Living in the household were the children reflecting their marriages: 21 Y/O Artelia Jane Little; 19 Y/O William Rufus Little; 18 Y/O Cynthia R. Little; 6 Y/O Florence P. Little; 5 Y/O Annie Lee Little; 2 Y/O Ellen F. Little; 21 Y/O J. Jones; 20 Y/O W. Ely Jones and 18 Y/O Mary Elizabeth Jones.

The 1900 US Census of Bold Springs, Shelby Co., AL enumerated the household of 69 Y/O Wilburn K. Little, a farmer, and his 64 Y/O wife, Elizabeth Caroline Little.

The 1910 US Census of Bold Springs, Shelby Co., AL enumerated the household of 77 Y/O Wilburn K. Little, retired, and his 74 Y/O wife, Elizabeth Caroline Little.

In her 12 Jan 1921 Confederate (CSA) pension application, Eliza Caroline (Poole) Little stated she was living in Leeds, AL in the household of a Robert E. Lee. This was most probably the same 28 Y/O Robert E. Lee, born in 1870, and his 25 Y/O wife, Ann, who were living next door to Wilburn King and Elizabeth Caroline Little in the 1900 US Census of Bold Springs, Shelby Co., AL. In 1920, the same family of 49 Y/O Robert E. Lee, born in 1870, and his 43 Y/O wife, Ann, were enumerated in the 1920 US Census of Leeds, Jefferson Co., AL. I do not know if there was a family connection or just friendship.
