Fred Engleman, son of William and Nancy Crawford Engleman, was born on his parents' homestead near Litchfield, Nebr., Feb. 11, 1879 and departed from this life, March 24, 1940, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Lillie West. He was aged 61 years and 13 days.

November 22, 1901 he was united in marriage to Harriet Jane Kays and to this union eight children were born: Nellie Ethel Grobe, Lillie Ellen West, Effie May, Zelma Irene Haddix, Clyde Franklin, Dorothy Pauline Putman, Faye Louise and Wilfred Fredrick. He was preceded in death by his wife and one child, Faye Louise, who died in infancy.

He has always made his home in Sherman and Custer counties near Litchfield, Nebraska, until the last few months when he went to Omaha and Ansley for medical care. He had many friends growing out of many years of happy congenial association.

He leaves, besides his children, four brothers, three sisters, other relatives and a host of friends.

His final service was conducted from the Methodist church with Rev. John Payne of Ansley in charge and Rev. Lois Payne assisting.

"We are going down the Valley," "Jesus is Calling" and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" were sung by Mrs. Ethel Grice, Mrs. Doris Brundige, Mr. Hal Mosgrove and Mr. Charles Wolford. Miss Ramona Porter was the pianist.

Messrs: Arnett Howard, Newhouser, Howard, Morgan and Schulz, all of Litchfield were the pallbearers. Interment was made in the Litchfield cemetery.
