Died at Hennepin of diphtheria, William Allen, 69, a settler of Putnam County since 1839.

William Allen died on Wednesday, the 10th at 6:00 PM at age 68. He was attended during his short illness and at his burial by his brethren of the Odd Fellow lodge of which he was an old and respected member, being at the time of his death, treasurer of the lodge. He will be missed in this community.

Mr. William Allen, one of the successful farmers and stock growers of Putnam county, died last Tuesday. He had an attack of dysentery some days, followed with throat disorder, something of the nature of diphtheria, which culminated in his death. He was born in Devonshire, England in 1812. His wife was Mary Fairgraves, a native of Edenburg, Scotland. Five children was the fruit of marriage, among those was John Allen, Esq., the attorney. Mr. Allen was a successful farmer and stock raiser. He has for some years been a prominent citizen, supervisor of the town several terms and was also president of the Putnam County Agricultural Society. He was very well known, highly esteemed and lays down life's work at the venerable age of nearly three score years and 10.
