Harry W. "Bill" Porter, II, age 75 passed away on Thursday, August 9, 2007 in Indianapolis. He was a resident of Greenwood.

He was born on April 20, 1932 in Whiteland, Indiana to the late Harry W. Porter, I and Mildred O. (Brewer) Porter. He married Alma M. (Herring) on April 17, 1955. She survives.

Other survivors include daughter Gina L. Bridges and son-in-law Dan Bridges; sister Joye Tabeling; brothers Tony Porter and Ed Porter; nephew Mark (Linda) Tabeling and niece Sherry Porter and great nieces Dana Tabeling and Cady Tabeling.

He was preceded in passing by his parents and niece Jill Porter.

He was a 1950 graduate of Whiteland High School where he was a star athlete participating in Basketball and Baseball. He was a pitcher for the baseball team. He was a 1955 graduate of Butler University. In 1950 as a senior at Whiteland High School he was on the Sectional Championship Team and was named Most Valuable Player and went on to Butler University to play basketball for Coach Tony Hinkle. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. Bill was a Basketball Coach and High School Teacher at Greenwood, Whiteland and Center Grove schools. For over twenty years, he was a Guidance Counselor at Warren Central High School. Bill was the first head basketball coach at Marion College. He was a member of the Silver Anniversary Hall of Fame Basketball Team. He was a member of Our Lady of Greenwood Catholic Church.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted on Tuesday, August 14, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Greenwood Catholic Church. Friends may be received from 10:00 a.m. to time of mass on Tuesday at the church. Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home in Franklin is handling arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Johnson County Humane Society.
