Doyn Standridge 74, of Dardanelle died Wednesday, Sept. 11, at Dardanelle Hospital.

Doyn was born April 3, 1928, in Hattieville, Conway County Arkansas the son of the late John Oscar and Hettie Pearson Standridge. He was a member of Delaware Baptist Church. Doyn was preceded in death by three brothers, Loyd, Boyd and Joe Standridge, and two sisters; Lue and Audry Jones.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Standridge; three sons and daughters-in-law. Russell Standridge of Dardanelle, Rickey and Illayana Standridge of Germany, and Terry and Mary Standridge of Dardanelle; five daughters and sons-in-law, Kaye and Nolen Frost of Dardanelle, Lynn and Pat MacKay of Russellville, Shirley and Ross Trude of Dardanelle, Sharon and Johnny Judkins of Morrilton, and Donna Turner of Ozark; two brothers, Melvin Standridge of Dardanelle and Delmar Standridge of Slaty Crossing; two sisters, Arlene Weaver of McGhee and Vernelle Hampton of Carden Bottoms; 17 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Doyn was a man with many great skills and talents. He built many beautiful pieces of furniture out of cedar and walnut. Everything that he made was a custom piece from his own vision of what he wanted it to be. Most of the wood that he used, he and his son Terry would cut and have sawed at a local mill to his own specifications.

One of his most prize accomplishments was a hydraulic steel guitar that he built over many years. He had intentions of patenting it, but that never came to past. Another exceptional talent was playing the steel guitar. Most of his weekends were spent with a band playing at a local VFW or Dance Hall.

Doyn also was a farm equipment repairman. No manual was ever needed by him to repair a tractor. All he needed was a description of the problem from the farmer or to listen to the tractor and he knew what the problem was and had the skills to get it back out in the fields quickly.

Doyn loved riding around in the country on the weekends and telling stories about the areas as you were passing through. I never tired of the stories and would enthusiastically listen to each one of the stories again today if given the opportunity.

Doyn was also a great fisherman and gardener. He took great pride in feeding his family and friends with the fish that he would catch and the vegetables that he grew in his garden. I loved to challenge his fishing skills every chance I got.

I would love to have one more day to listen to him play the beautiful music he made with his steel guitar, fish with him on Rose Creek with an old cane pole and freshly dug worms, pick tomatoes from his garden in the boiling sun or ride around the backrodes listening to stories about the "Good Ole Days".

What A Wonderful World Lyrics:

I see trees of green, red roses too
I see them bloom for me and you
And I say to myself
What a wonderful world

I see skies of blue and clouds of white
Bright sunny days, dark sacred nights
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world

The colors of the rainbow are so pretty in the skies
Are also on the faces of people walking by
I see friends shaking hands saying
How do you do?
They're really saying
I love you

I see babies cry, I watch them grow
They'll learn much more than I'll ever know
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world
Yes, I think to myself
What a wonderful world

And I say to myself
What a wonderful world
