He married Rachel Myra McAllister on December 16, 1940. The were blessed with four children: Richard Charles, Thomas Stuart, David Harold and Mary Elizabeth.
In 1944 he responded to the call to ministry and received an "exhorter's License" by The Methodist Church.
Bill died at the home of his daughter in Colfax, NC. The funeral was held at Center UMC, Mocksville, the very Church in which he received his "Exhorter's Liscense."
