Mary ran the Crest Hotel (probably just managed it). The Crest Hotel was located across the street from the Stagecoach House. While running this hotel, she developed the habit of keeping all the silverware in a cut glass dish, sitting on the table. It was a habit she never broke, and her silverware always continued to sit on her kitchen table, in a fancy cut glass dish. After she retired from running the hotel, she never worked outside the home again. Her daughter Daisy then ran it for a while. Mary is remembered for her gardens, and her hats. She always wore a hat, or a bonnet in her older years. She had an abundance of her favorite flower, the Cosmos, in her front yard garden - right by the porch. Her grandchildren also remember her as very small, very petite. If she was sitting in a chair that someone else wanted to sit in, they just picked her up and moved her, carrying her to another chair. Towards the end of 1934, they both became quite ill. James was bed-ridden in the bedroom. Mary was bed-ridden in the living room. When James died, they took his body out the bedroom window so Mary wouldn't find out he had died.
But, no matter how they tried to cover up his death, she knew and she went into a coma. She never came out of the coma and she died 10 days after her husband, James.
