She was educated at the Albany Female Academy in Albany, New York. She married Joseph Frederick Stone on 16 June 1852 in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. She was a noted author, having won honors for her writings and scholarship.
She was very distraught after the death of her husband, with left her with an infant son. It was affecting her health and her brother, Cyrus, took her, along with his wife, by sailing vessel, to Paris to cheer her up. She, however, died the night of their arrival. It was probably due to a stroke of some type caused by her depression.
