Nannie Thomas

Nannie C. Thomas (Conn), 89, died on August 10, 2007 at Home Hospital in Lafayette. She was born on March 3, 1918 in Brentsville, KY to the late James and Ada (Delaway) Conn. She attended Western High School in Paris, KY. Her marriage was to Elmore M. Thomas, Sr., on June 11, 1952 in Paris, KY, and he survives. They moved to Lafayette in 1958. She worked as a cook at the Indiana Veteran's Home for 15 years, retiring in 1983. She was a member of Bethel AME Church. Surviving with her husband are her six daughters, Jean Vaughn, Susan Gay, Nina Johnson (Husb: Albert), Kathleen Tandy and Valerie Chandler all of Lafayette, Martha Orkmon (Husb: Anthony) of Indianapolis; one son, Cassell Blackburn (wife: Evelyn) of Fort Wayne, and one stepson, Elmore M. Thomas, Jr. of Paris, KY. Friends may call from 5-8pm Wednesday, August 15, 2007 at Hippensteel Funeral Home with Services there 11am Thursday with Rev.'s Debra Scott and Mallory Terrence officiating and interment to follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens. Surviving are 20 Grandchildren, 6 Step-Grandchildren, 37 Great Grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren. Preceded in death by a sister, Lucille Brown, two daughters, Shirley Ellis and Mary Bates, and a nephew, Charles Johnson. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
